How often have you heard the rich yodeling of a loon on a nearby lake? We had sailed most of the day and anchored out in the bay for the evening. The loon was near the shore fishing and diving. I captured this photo when the loon surfaced in the water near our sailboat. I couldn’t believe it. I finally had the opportunity to get a close up shot. Within seconds the loon disappeared. The loon has a glossy black head and neck with red eyes. They have a white chest and black wings covered with white spots. This beautiful bird inspired me to create a painting from my own photo reference.
